HILVERSUM - A recently opened outlet of the Oldenhof chain of cookware stores claims to be the largest one of its kind in Europe. With 21,000 square feet of floor space, ten times the size of the old store, the Oldenhof shop may very well be one of the largest in the world. A visit to the store will rate as memorable for (gourmet) chefs, afficinados and homemakers alike.
Entrepreneur Barry Voorhorst proudly reminds people that his store is located in a `minor' Dutch city which in this respect outshines European metropolises such as Paris, London, Milan and Amsterdam. Because of the recent move to much larger premises the Kookkado (in literal translation: `cook gift') could incorporate large displays and even add an extensive professional kitchen offering cooking classes. Oldenhof, its headoffice is located in Zwolle, in its new Hilversum outlet stocks every imaginable kitchen utensil, and in a wide range of prices. The scala runs from mushroom brushes and butcherblocks to espresso makers and $14,000 Viking stoves and from starter sets to cookbooks, flatware, Wedgwood and exclusive Henckel knives. Of the Boretti line of professional six-burner stoves, Oldenhof has sixty on display. If Voorhorst does not stock a particular item, he will try his utmost to get for any customer. The store offers advise and instructions at no charge.
